Dear Parents, Students and Visitors to the International School of Tianjin,

Welcome to the Elementary School at IST, a friendly place where the needs of students come first. The elementary school is specifically organized for children in Nursery through Grade 5. The International School of Tianjin has a reputation for excellence in education, and we are committed to working as a team to ensure that every child is encouraged to achieve his or her unique potential.

IST is an IB World School fully authorized to offer the IB-Primary Years Programme, which provides comprehensive and balanced curriculum that is relevant, challenging, and engaging for all learners. The goal of this inquiry-based program is to create a learning environment that takes advantage of every young child's natural curiosity and eagerness to learn. IST has been successfully implementing this highly-regarded international program for its elementary students since August 2003.

Parents and visitors to our school marvel at how happy our students are.  IST students are not only happy students, but they are students who achieve. Our teachers play a central role in this by working collaboratively to implement researched and supported teaching practices on how students learn best, and by keeping the needs of the individual student at the forefront of all they do.

My role as principal of the elementary school is to support teachers, students, and parents so that together we may create a rich educational and multicultural learning environment where wondrous things happen. I believe that the best schools function as dynamic learning communities that support a climate of creative and active learning.  Parents are their child’s first teachers and we consider the family the foundation upon which we build a strong home-school partnership.
