History

The International School of Tianjin (formerly Teda International School, Tianjin) opened its doors to some 20 children in grades one to four on 5 September 1994. Since then IST’s student body has expanded rapidly to our current enrollment of over 500 students. To keep pace with the rising enrollment we employ over 60 highly qualified expatriate teachers who are supported by six local Chinese language teachers and a large team of dedicated Teacher Assistants and support personnel. Our programs now range from Nursery/Pre-Kindergarten (3-4 year old students) through Grade 12 (18-19 year old students).

A Brief hISTory

September 1994:	Founding of TEDA International School, Tianjin (TIST) at the original Mu Nan Dao site. First day of classes, 5 September 1994
August 1997:	Facilities expansion with Grade 5 and the new Grade 6-8 Middle School moving to the newly renovated building in Da Li Dao
May 1998:	Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) grants accreditation, NPK-Grade 8
August 1998:	Facilities expansion with Kindergarten and Grade 1 moving to the newly renovated building in Xin Hua Lu
August 1999:	Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes return to Mu Nan Dao extension
January 2001:	Move to new purpose built facilities in Weishan Lu, Shuangang, Jinnan
July 2002:	IB-MYP and IB-Diploma Program Authorization granted by the IB
June 2004:	School name change to International School of Tianjin (IST)
May 2005:	WASC grants 5 year re-accreditation, with 5 year renewal visit scheduled for spring 2010
June 2005:	IB-PYP Program Authorization granted by the IBO
June 2005:	Council of International Schools (CIS) grants accreditation, with a 5 year mid-accreditation visit scheduled for spring 2010, and full renewal visit scheduled for spring 2015
June 2005:	First IST/IB Diploma Graduating Class
October 2007:	Formal adoption of IST Board of Governors Constitution and Administrative Structure
Autumn 2007:	Phase 2 facilities expansion project commences
April 2010:	CIS / WASC / IB - Three party Accreditation / Evaluation
August 2010:	Compeltion of Phase 2 expansion Project
